September 16-17, 2017 Boulder, CO Embodied Life Seminar

Integrating Personal and Societal Awareness

September 16/17 + a free talk Friday, September 15
Boulder, Colorado at Shining Mountain Waldorf School
Presented by: Russell Delman and Liliana Evans Delman

Dear Friends,

I am thrilled to invite you to a new Embodied Life seminar in which we explore the connections between self-awareness, cultural awareness and social justice.

We are living in a powerful, vibrant and challenging time individually and
culturally. Both the Dalai Lama and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. emphasize the connection between individual freedom and freedom for all. Growing our capacity for universal compassion as the Dalai Lama urges and developing MLK’s “Beloved Community” require us to deepen into a new level of awareness.

Many people attracted to the “inner” paths of meditation, awareness, yoga, Feldenkrais, Focusing, spiritual development, etc., often do not devote themselves to the larger contexts of injustice, social realities of inequality and effective intergroup communication.

Many people engaged in social justice work, including educating on biases arising from race, gender, sexual orientation, physical differences, class and ecological practices have not developed the inner practices that can: grow a grounded, centered presence, protect from burn-out, and enhance effective communication.

“Seeking to Understand before Being Understood”

Through Embodied awareness, we can grow the inner resources for being present through challenging interactions. When we can “seek to understand before being understood”, we become a positive, healing force in the world.

In this seminar, we will combine inner awareness including meditation and Feldenkrais movement lessons, along with social awareness practices, talks and conversations. The intention is to grow our capacity for being more fully present, as well as exploring ways we can be a positive force for societal transformation. We will focus on essential skills including:

1) Embodiment: Developing greater access to a Grounded-Centered Presence, that you can take with you into difficult conversations and situations
2) Listening: Learning and practicing excellent listening skills to improve your communication and relationships
3) Cross-Cultural Communication: Learning to express yourself in ways that can be received and understood from multiple lived experiences
4) Social Awareness: Increasing awareness of social injustice, personal identities and their impacts on oneself and others
