Embodied Life Seminar

New York, New York

Living the Embodied Life: Feldenkrais, Meditation and Guided Inquiry

Learning to be more fully PRESENT for life, in our personal and professional relationships, as well as in ourselves, is the key to fulfillment, meaningfulness and joy. The Feldenkrais Method and Awareness through Movement in particular, point us in this direction. Growing new neural networks for responding freshly to life rather than using familiar patterns and reacting habitually is the essence of true freedom!

Russell Delman, a Feldenkrais Teacher for more than 40 years has developed a holistic approach to awareness and freedom called The Embodied Life that integrates movement, meditation and self-inquiry in seamless ways. He teaches "Embodied Meditation"based on his 50 years of personal Zen practice. In this approach to meditation and self-awareness, we learn to be with our inner voices from a unique vantage point; rather than controlling the mind through concentration, we learn to befriend and gently de-energize unhelpful thought patterns..

In addition to the Feldenkrais Method, two other practices of somatic inquiry, have had an important influence on Russell, 'Focusing', developed by University of Chicago psychologist, Eugene Gendlin, and 'Non-Violent Communication', developed by Marshall Rosenberg. Unwinding the unhelpful ways we carry our personal history in our bodies allows us to feel truly more aligned with ourselves and the external world. By uncovering the essentials of communication, we can "seek to understand before being understood"and thereby create the context for authentic, effective connection.

This seminar is open to Feldenkrais Practitioners, other health professionals and the general public. In addition to many practices devoted to growing our capacity for Presence in daily life, specific guidance will be offered for those who want to integrate these approaches into their work.

Russell Delman began his study of Zen meditation in 1970 and graduated from Moshe Feldenkrais' first North American professional training in 1977. Since becoming a Feldenkrais Trainer in 1984, he has taught in more than 50 international programs. Russell views with deep gratitude, how his personal relationships with Dr. Feldenkrais and Eugene Gendlin, have influenced his learning and teaching. He teaches The Embodied Life throughout the world and lives with his wife, Linda, in Sonoma, CA.
